Introduction to Placebo

In one of the toughest undergrad schools in the world, a film maker infiltrates a complex mindscape of ambition and restless youth. In the hallways of excellence, something sinister is at work- and those who inhabit them must fight these monsters within.

About The Filmmaker: Abhay Kumar

Abhay Kumar (born 1985, Chandigarh) is a double National Award-winning filmmaker and visual artist from India, now based in Amsterdam. His feature documentary ‘Placebo’ was released worldwide on Netflix in 2016 and won the National Award for Best Investigative Film 2017. He edited and produced ‘About Love’, which recently entered the all time top rated 1000 films on Mubi.

In 2021, Kumar graduated Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Cinema at the Netherlands Film Academy with his ongoing artistic research examining ‘grids as control mechanisms’. He is currently researching ‘dance as a ritual of pleasure’ within techno and rave subcultures and finishing two science fiction shorts in production.
